The EQT Foundation announces a new call for proposals, reaffirming its commitment to supporting scientific excellence in underserved areas. The Breakthrough Science Program awards €25K – €100K to scientists to accelerate their innovative ideas to address climate change and health inequalities, with this call focusing on the theme of methane .
This call for proposals focuses on reducing methane emissions, which has been identified as a key area for developing impactful solutions to climate change. Methane’s global warming effect is 86 times stronger than CO2, and although 158 countries have pledged to reduce their methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030, recent studies show a record increase of methane in the last five years. According to research, 60 percent of these emissions come from human activities, so they represent an opportunity for a new climate solution.
Grant application processes are often time-consuming, limiting the time scientists can spend in the lab working on what’s actually available. The scientific success program of the EQT Foundation was created with scientists in mind, both providing an easy application process and a quick response of no more than 21 days from the closing date.
“Our program aims to provide fast and flexible funding to scientists who want to investigate advanced ideas in their area of expertise – ideas that they would not be able to pursue with basic research funding. available at their universities or research institutes. Through this program, we aim to help close and highlight an important funding gap, helping to unlock new climate and health solutions at the intersection of research fields where EQT’s expertise can provide valuable insights for scientists.” Cilia Holmes Indahl, CEO of the EQT Foundation.
The Breakthrough Science Program welcomes applications from researchers at all levels, from PhD students to professors, affiliated with research institutions or non-profits. It focuses on projects aimed at significantly reducing methane emissions in areas such as agriculture, industrial production and waste management.
Applications will be reviewed by EQT’s Grants Committee, with the support of academic and industry experts within EQT’s global network.
Highlights of the Breakthrough Science Program:
- Application Period: September 24, 2024, to November 8, 2024
- Grants: €25,000 to €100,000
